Paola Resident’s 4th of July Starts with a Bang – Winning $20,000

TOPEKA, KAN. – Terry Crawford’s Fourth of July started with a bang. The Paola resident purchased five $2 Bonus Crossword instant scratch tickets Friday afternoon, winning a $20,000 top prize on the third ticket she played.

“I went to Stilwell to buy feed, but the feed store was closed due to the holiday,” said Crawford. “On my way back home, I stopped to get a drink and a few lottery tickets. After leaving the store I got stopped by a train, so I decided to scratch my tickets. I thought I’d won $2,000 at first. After double checking my ticket, I realized it was a $20,000 winner. I couldn’t believe it.”

Crawford was so excited about her win, she stopped at her brother’s house so he could take a look at the ticket.

“I wanted someone to confirm I won $20,000,” said Crawford. “Everyone thought I was kidding, including my husband Jim.”

According to Crawford, she’s had good luck playing Bonus Crossword tickets.

“I recently won $500,” said Crawford. “And I’ve won several $100 prizes. Crossword is a lot of fun to play.”

Crawford and her husband, who together have three grown children and six grandchildren, plan to pay bills with their prize money.

The winning ticket was purchased at Stilwell Station, located at 7030 W. 199th St. in Stilwell.
