Salina Resident Has “King Size” Luck – Winning $75,000!

TOPEKA, KAN. – Doneal Nichols of Salina had “king size” luck on July 2 when she purchased five $10 King Size Cash instant scratch tickets. The 57-year-old was shocked when she revealed a $75,000 top prize on the fourth ticket she scratched!

“I must’ve had beginner’s luck,” smiled Nichols. “This was the first time I’d played that game. I also won $10 on the second ticket and $20 on the third ticket I scratched. I was happy winning those two prizes.”

According to Nichols, when she realized she’d won a $75,000 top prize, she started shaking.

“I kept thinking, ‘Am I looking at this right?’” said Nichols. “I was in denial. I couldn’t believe it.”

After having her winning ticket verified at the store where she purchased her ticket, Nichols called her daughter Becky to share the good news.

“Becky was excited for me,” said Nichols. “She even went to the same store and tried her luck. She won $15.”

Nichols’ husband Bill, who works night shift, was unaware of all the excitement until he woke up to go to work.

“Becky showed her dad her $15 winning ticket,” said Nichols. “He was still half asleep, but was happy that she won since she had bought a $10 ticket. Becky told him he should take a look at my ticket and see how much I won. When I showed him my ticket, he couldn’t believe it, either.”

The Nichols’, who have been married 29 years, have two grown daughters and four grandchildren.

They plan to purchase new carpet and linoleum for their home and save the rest of their prize money.

The winning ticket was purchased at Prime Time Store 123, located at 100 N. Broadway in Salina.
