$5,000 Winner Thought He Was Seeing Things

TOPEKA, KAN. – Jeffrey Young of Cleveland, Tennessee, travels across the country installing fire protection systems. The 25-year-old has been in Topeka since June 1 installing a fire system at Del Monte Pet Products. Before work yesterday morning, Young stopped at a convenience store for a drink and a lottery ticket. He couldn’t believe his luck when he revealed a $5,000 cash prize playing a $5 Kansas Lottery 300 instant scratch ticket.

“After I bought the ticket, I was headed to work when I had to stop for a train to pass,” said Young. “While I was waiting on the train, I scratched my ticket. I thought I was seeing things when I saw I had won $5,000.”

According to Young, he hasn’t had the best of luck lately.

“I had to go to the hospital Saturday,” said Young. “I tore ligaments in my foot. That’s one reason why I thought I was seeing things when I won. The medication I’m taking makes my vision blurry. Winning was a fluke because I only buy tickets once in a blue moon.”

Young, whose wife and two small children remain in Tennessee, plans to buy a motorcycle with his prize money.

The winning ticket was purchased at CSC 50, located at 600 SW Fairlawn Rd. Topeka.
