Shawnee Residents Wins $5,000 “Bucks” Playing Veterans Game
TOPEKA, KAN. – Lisa Autenrieth couldn’t believe her luck when she and her husband Kyle stopped at a convenience store to purchase lottery tickets last Friday. The Shawnee residents purchased two $1 Veterans Bucks instant scratch tickets, winning a $5,000 top prize on one.
“I scratched my tickets in the car,” said Autenrieth. “When I scratched the $5,000 winner, I looked at Kyle and said, ‘This can’t be right.’”
After Kyle double-checked the winning ticket, they decided it was best to go back into the store and have a store clerk verify their win.
“We had a hard time believing we won,” said Autenrieth. “Once the clerk verified that we did win, he congratulated us and said we needed to sign the back of our ticket. I called my parents before we left the store. We’re so excited.”
The Autenrieths were undecided how they would spend their prize money.
The winning ticket was purchased at Shell 16486, located at 12941 W. 63rd St. in Shawnee.
All net profits from Veterans games benefit Kansas Veterans programs and Kansas National Guard Scholarships. Starting July 1, profits from Veterans games will also be distributed to the Museum of the Kansas National Guard.
