Did Deal Lead to $20,000 Win?
TOPEKA, KAN. – Earlier this spring, Thomas Howrey made a deal with family friend Bridget Glock that if she earned all As and Bs on her report card, he would take her and her family on a golf trip this summer. After making the deal, the Towanda resident started playing $2 Bonus Crossword instant scratch tickets on the off chance he could win some money for the trip. He couldn’t believe his luck last Tuesday when he purchased four $2 Bonus Crossword tickets, winning a $20,000 top prize on one.
“I’ve been buying tickets every day for the past two months,” said Howrey. “When I made the deal and started playing Crossword, I never expected to win $20,000.”
When Howrey first realized he’d won a $20,000 top prize, he thought he’d made a mistake by revealing a wrong letter, so he called his brother to come take a look at his ticket.
“I’ve never won anything like this before, so I wasn’t sure,” said Howrey. “I never dreamed this would happen.”
Howrey, who works construction, plans to take Bridget and her family to Florida in July as promised with his prize money.
The winning ticket was purchased at Augusta Jump Start, located at 115 E. 7th St. in Augusta.
