Overbrook Man Wins $22,000 2by2 Top Prize

TOPEKA, KAN. – Monday afternoon, Wayne O’Brien stopped at a local convenience store to purchase a 2by2 and Super Kansas Cash ticket. The Overbrook resident checked his tickets Tuesday morning from the numbers listed in the newspaper and couldn’t believe what he was seeing. O’Brien matched both red and both white 2by2 numbers, winning a $22,000 top prize in the June 2 drawing.

“I’ve never won more than $100,” said O’Brien. “When I read my 2by2 numbers in the newspaper, I went back to the store and scanned my ticket through their Check-A-Ticket machine to make sure there wasn’t a mistake.”

When the Check-A-Ticket read, “Claim at Lottery. Sign back of ticket,” O’Brien knew for sure he’d won a $22,000 top prize.

“I was excited but I didn’t say anything to anyone,” said O’Brien. “My wife Joann was scheduled to have surgery Wednesday morning and she was having a lot of anxiety. I was afraid if I told her we won $22,000 it would cause her more anxiety, so I waited until we returned home later that night. She was very surprised.”

The O’Briens, who have four children, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, will celebrate their 39th wedding anniversary this month. They are undecided how they’ll spend their prize money.

The winning ticket was purchased at Casey’s General Store 1151, located at 200 W. 8th St. in Overbrook.
