Gardner Resident Has “Super” Luck

TOPEKA, KAN. – “Red Hot” is a good way to describe Tracy Schnagl’s luck this year playing instant scratch tickets. The Gardner resident claimed a $10,000 top prize in January, playing a $2 Bubble Bucks 3 game. Today, she made the trip to Lottery headquarters in Topeka again to claim a prize worth $5,000. Schnagl won the $5,000 cash prize playing a $5 Super Red Hot Crossword instant scratch ticket.

“I took my tickets home to scratch since it was too hot to play them in the car,” explained Schnagl. “When I got to the second ticket and started revealing words, I knew I had won but I wasn’t sure how much. I checked and rechecked my ticket.”

As she was checking her ticket, her husband Tim called.

“I explained to Tim that I thought I had won $5,000, but I wasn’t sure,” said Schnagl. “He couldn’t believe it. He told me to check the ticket again, and call him back.”

After checking the ticket one more time, Schnagl called Tim back.

“I told him we were making a trip to Topeka to claim my prize,” said Schnagl. “His only response was, ‘No, way!’”

The Schnagls, who have two grown children and two grandchildren, celebrated their 26th wedding anniversary last Saturday. They plan to pay bills with their prize money.

The winning ticket was purchased at Price Chopper 117, located at 830 E. Main St. in Gardner.
