Abilene School Cook Brings Home $20,000 in Bacon

TOPEKA, KAN. – Taking the time to redeem her free tickets turned out to be a very good thing for Jolene Sumner, 44, of Abilene. Sumner had two $2 Bonus Crossword instant scratch tickets on which she had found three words. Each of those two tickets won her a free ticket. Sumner got her free tickets and took them home to scratch.

“I knew immediately that I had won a $20,000 top prize,” said Sumner. “I was very excited. I told my family, ‘I’m going to Topeka tomorrow!’”

Sumner won her $20,000 top prize by finding ten words on Bonus Crossword, the Lottery’s most popular instant scratch game. She plans to spend some of her prize money at the dentist’s office, and said she will also purchase some new household items. Sumner works as a cook at a high school in Abilene. She and her husband Ray have three children and one grandchild.

Sumner purchased her tickets at West Stop, located at 420 N. Buckeye in Abilene.
