“Crazy Dave” Wins $200,000 Powerball Prize

TOPEKA, KAN. – David “Crazy Dave” Stephens has gained notoriety in Topeka by singing funny commercials for a local car dealership. He can now add the song, “We’re in the Money” to his repertoire. The Topeka resident matched the first five Powerball numbers in the October 31 drawing, winning a $200,000 cash prize!

“I’m a faithful lottery player,” said Stephens. “Even though I’ve had people tell me I’m wasting my time and money, little did they know?”

Sunday morning, Stephens and his wife Sheila went to a local grocery store to buy breakfast items when they decided to check their ticket.

“I checked the ticket myself,” said Stephens. “When the machine read, ‘Sign back of ticket,’ I didn’t know what that meant, so I asked the gal behind the counter to check it for me. After she scanned the ticket, she looked at me and explained that she didn’t know how much I’d won, but it must be big.”

After checking out at the grocery store, Stephens and his wife went back to their car where they looked up the winning numbers on his cell phone.

“When we realized we’d won $200,000, we were yelling and carrying on,” said Stephens. “A guy walking by our car looked at us like we were crazy.”

Stephens, who is moving to Joplin, Missouri tomorrow, said winning the $200,000 prize couldn’t have come at a better time.

“I’m starting a new job tomorrow and we were concerned about money,” said Stephens. “Now we can pay off a few bills, save the rest of the money and not have to worry.”

The winning ticket was purchased at Tammy’s On the Go, located at 3335 Gage Blvd. in Topeka.
