Goddard Resident Claims $200,000 Powerball Prize
TOPEKA, KAN. – A Goddard resident whose “life changed in a matter of minutes,” has claimed a $200,000 Powerball prize by matching the first five numbers in the October 17 drawing! The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, claimed the $200,000 cash prize at Lottery headquarters today.
“I literally had five dollars left to my name when I bought my ticket,” the winner said. “It was a spur of the moment purchase that’s changed my life.”
The winner didn’t realize she had a $200,000 winning ticket until Tuesday.
“I checked my own ticket on a Check-A-Ticket machine,” said the winner. “When it read, ‘Sign back of ticket,’ I wasn’t sure what to do. I asked the gal behind the counter to check it for me. When I found out I’d won $200,000, I thanked God. After that, I immediately drove home to show my parents.”
When the winner reached her parents’ house, her parents thought she’d had an accident because she was shaking and crying.
“When I told them I’d won $200,000, we starting jumping up and down,” said the winner. “I still get choked up thinking about it.”
After tithing $20,000 to her church, the single mom plans to pay bills and put a down payment on a house with her prize money.
The winning ticket was purchased at Gerrard’s Restaurant located at 20201 W. Kellogg St. in Goddard.
