Cheney Residents Find What They’re Looking For – A $20,000 Win
TOPEKA, KAN. – After making several trips to a convenience store to purchase lottery tickets Saturday evening, Sandra and Larry Goodwin finally found what they were looking for. The Cheney residents revealed a $20,000 top prize playing a $2 Bonus Crossword instant scratch ticket!
“It’s a long story on how we came to win,” laughed Sandra. “We always buy five tickets at a time whenever we play Crossword. On Saturday, we bought five tickets and had a $10 winner. One of our daughters had bought tickets too, and had won a FREE ticket on the same game. She went back to the store for us and cashed in what she thought was our winning ticket.”
Goodwin’s daughter got the winning tickets mixed up and cashed in the FREE ticket for another Bonus Crossword ticket instead of cashing in the $10 winner for more tickets.
“When she came back with one ticket, I told her we had the $10 winner and she needed to go back and cash it in for five more tickets,” explained Sandra. “She didn’t want to go back to the store, so she gave us the ticket she got from the FREE ticket she cashed in, plus $8. Larry wanted me to go back to the store and get four more tickets. I’m glad I did because we won on the fourth ticket!”
The Goodwins, who have three children, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, plan to share their winnings with their family.
The winning ticket was purchased at Kabredlo’s Cenex 268, located at 425 N. Main St. in Cheney.
