Chanute Player Continues Great Luck with $1 Tickets

TOPEKA, KAN. – Kenneth Ornelas says Kansas Lottery instant scratch tickets have been good to him. In the past seven years, he’s won prizes of $888, $2,700 and $3,000 – and they’ve all been on $1 tickets. His latest prize, however, beats them all! Ornelas scratched off a $5,000 prize on a $1 Keep the Change ticket.

“It really shocked me,” said the 64-year-old Chanute winner. “I couldn’t believe I’d done it.”

Ornelas says when he showed his wife the winning ticket, she couldn’t believe it either.

“I had claimed my other tickets before she saw them, so this was the first time she had actually seen a big winning ticket before it had been claimed,” Ornelas explained.

Ornelas is retired and says, like his other wins, this one came at a good time.

“They seem to come when we really need the money,” he said.

Ornelas is not only pleased with the real check he received from the Kansas Lottery, he also really liked the “big” check the Lottery gave him.

“I think I’m going to have it framed,” said the happy winner.

The lucky $1 Keep the Change ticket was purchased at Pump N Pete’s 24, located at 701 N. Santa Fe St. in Chanute.
