Ozawkie Resident Feels Lucky – Wins $5,000
TOPEKA, KAN. – While at the grocery store Saturday evening, Sandra Smith said she was feeling lucky, so she decided to purchase a few instant scratch tickets. The Ozawkie resident was glad she listened to her instincts. She purchased 10 $1 Veterans Game instant scratch tickets, winning a $5,000 top prize on the second ticket she scratched!
“I was totally shocked when I won,” said Smith. “I showed my husband Eddie the winning ticket and he suggested I call the store to make sure I was playing the game right.”
After calling the store, Smith was positive she’d played the game correctly and did indeed have a $5,000 winner.
“I was nervous knowing I had a $5,000 winner,” said Smith. “I took a photo of the ticket and showed my friends and family the photo instead of the actual ticket. I didn’t want to take the chance of losing it. Eddie is usually the lucky one not me. It’s hard to believe we won.”
The Smiths, who have been married 43 years, plan to take a trip to Maine next year and pay off bills with their prize money.
The winning ticket was purchased at Perry-Lecompton Thriftway, located at 609 Cedar St. in Perry.
