El Dorado Resident Wins $20,000 Top Prize

TOPEKA, KAN. – We’ve all heard the saying when someone gets excited or mad “they went through the roof.” According to Sarah Wehry, when she discovered she’d won a $20,000 top prize playing a $2 Bonus Crossword instant scratch ticket, that’s about what she did.

“If the roof would have been lower, I would have went through it I was so excited,” said Wehry. “I thought I’d won $2,000 at first and was thrilled with that. I checked my ticket again and realized I’d missed a word, making my ticket worth $20,000. I couldn’t believe it.”

After “calling everyone she knew,” the reality of her win began to sink in.

“You buy tickets hoping to win, but you never really expect it to happen,” said Wehry. “You always hear of someone else winning, but never think that someday it will be you.”

Wehry and her husband Jason, who have three children, plan to pay a few bills with their prize money and save the rest.

The winning ticket was purchased in Jump Start 1, located at 1631 W. Central in El Dorado.
