Wichita State Student Living Large with $10,000 Win

Matt Stillwell, 38, of Park City came to Topeka to claim the $10,000 prize he won playing the $20 $100,000 Large instant scratch game. The win was a welcomed surprise for Stillwell, a disabled veteran and current student at Wichita State.

"I had $20 worth of winning tickets, so I stopped at the store to cash them in and thought I'd try this $100,000 Large game," said Stillwell. "I didn't win on my first ticket, but I liked the game, so I bought a second ticket. That was the one that was the winner."

At first, Stillwell didn't notice the prize amount underneath his winning symbols. "When I scratched off the ticket, I saw one of the "money bag" symbols, which I knew meant the ticket was a winner. I figured I had just won my money back," said Stillwell. "Then I found another symbol, and then another and I started to get really excited!"

When he was done counting up symbols and doing some quick math, he realized his ticket was worth $10,000!

"It was quite a shock. I signed the back of the ticket, and went home and put it in my safe. Every night before I went to bed, I would check to make sure it was still there," Stillwell said with a laugh. "I'm just glad to be here finally so I can cash it in!"

Stillwell says he already knows what he's going to do with his winnings. "I'm going to surprise my son with a trip to Legoland in Kansas City. I'll also share some with my mom, and pay off some bills."

The winning ticket was sold at QuikTrip 394R at 928 E. 61st St. North in Park City. There are still two $100,000 top prizes left in the $100,000 Large instant scratch game, as well as thousands of other cash prizes.
