Park City Resident "On Cloud Nine" after Winning $10,000 Lottery Prize

Before traveling to Colorado for a week-long vacation, Michael Greenwood of Park City stopped at his favorite Kansas Lottery retail location to purchase a $2 Bingo Boxes instant scratch ticket.  After scratching the ticket, the 51-year-old thought he had won a $10 cash prize; however, a week later he discovered the ticket was actually worth much more!

"I was so sure I had won $10 on the Bingo Boxes ticket, I had written '$10' on the back of it before handing it over to my wife Paula, who put the ticket in her purse so we could cash it in later," said Greenwood.

Seven days later, the Greenwoods were in for a big surprise when they stopped at Hays on their return home from Colorado.  Instead of winning $10, the lucky couple had won a $10,000 top prize!

"When we stopped at Hays, I was going to validate the ticket," said Greenwood.  "When the clerk scanned it, she said I had to take it to Topeka because it was worth more than they could pay out. After looking more closely at it, we discovered it was worth $10,000, not $10! We couldn't believe it.  We were shocked with total elation.  From Hays to Park City, we kept checking and rechecking the ticket."

Once they were home in Park City, the Greenwoods checked their ticket once more at a local convenience store.

"Even after checking it over and over, we've had a hard time believing we've won $10,000," said Greenwood.  "I didn't truly believe it until it was confirmed by Lottery officials. Needless to say, we've been on cloud nine."

The Greenwoods, who have three sons and two grandsons, plan to help their youngest son with college tuition with a portion of their winnings.  The rest they said will go towards a new fence for their yard.

The winning ticket was purchased at Snacks, located at 6209 N. Broadway St. in Wichita.

There are four $10,000 top prizes remaining in the Bingo Boxes game as well as thousands of other cash prizes.
