$1.5 Billion Jackpot Has Lottery Players Working for the Weekend
Everybody is working for the weekend, but for some lucky Kansas Lottery player this Saturday could be the end of working! The jackpot in the Saturday, December 20 Powerball drawing has hit an estimated $1.5 BILLION.
Tonight’s jackpot ranks as the fifth largest in Powerball history and the seventh largest US Lottery jackpot of all time. This will be the game’s second-biggest prize this year, behind only the $1.787 billion jackpot won on September 6, 2025, in Missouri and Texas. Tonight will mark the 45th consecutive drawing in the jackpot run, which is a new game record for most consecutive drawings in a jackpot cycle.
If a player wins tonight’s jackpot, they will have the choice between an annuitized prize estimated at $1.5 billion or a lump sum payment estimated at $689.3 million. Both prize options are before taxes. If the winner selects the annuity option, they will receive one immediate payment followed by 29 annual payments that increase by 5 percent each year.
Powerball tickets start at just $2, with the option to add the Power Play Multiplier and/or add Double Play to your ticket for an additional $1 each. Powerplay can multiply a non-jackpot win by up to 10X. Cutoff for entry is 8:59 p.m. on draw days.
Kansas Powerball tickets now have an option for an additional draw. The Double Play is a new Powerball feature that only 27 states currently offer that gives players another chance to match their Powerball numbers in a separate drawing with a top cash prize of $10 million.
Players are invited to submit all their winning and non-winning tickets in the Kansas Lottery PlayOn® Players Loyalty program to earn points for drawing entries and a chance to win cash and other prizes! PlayOn® is a registered trademark of Pollard Banknote Limited used under license.
