Powerball Hits $1 Billion Ahead of Saturday’s Drawing!

The day has finally arrived where Powerball crosses over the incredible one-billion-dollar prize amount. The jackpot for the Saturday, August 30 Powerball drawing has been RAISED to $1 BILLION!  

This is only the sixth time in the history of the game that the jackpot climbed to these heights. The game has been rolling since May 31 when it was last hit. Saturday will be the 39^th drawing in this jackpot run.

Powerball tickets start at $2 per play, with the option of adding the Power Play multiplier for an extra $1. Players must purchase their tickets before 8:59 p.m. on the night of the drawing to be eligible.

If a player wins Saturday’s jackpot, they will have the choice between an annuitized prize estimated at $1 billion or a lump sum payment estimated at $453.1 million. Both prize options are before taxes. If the winner selects the annuity option, they will receive one immediate payment followed by 29 annual payments that increase by 5-percent each year.

Players may have noticed that they were not able to purchase as many drawings on their Powerball tickets. That is because there is a game change at the end of September coming to Powerball in Kansas! The new DoublePlay feature can be added to any Powerball ticket for an additional $1. The DoublePlay is a secondary drawing that immediately follows the main Powerball jackpot drawing, where players can win up to $10 million!

The new DoublePlay feature will begin with the September 22, 2025 drawing. As that date gets closer, there will be less multi-draw options for players in preparation for the game change. Starting on September 22, players will be able to purchase up to 15 drawings in advance as they could before.
