One ticket is all it takes to win big with the Kansas Lottery, something that John Ohmie of Wichita learned on Wednesday morning. Ohmie purchased a single $30 Fiery Hot 7’s scratch ticket and quickly found out he won something, but underestimated his prize in his excitement.

“The first spot I scratched off was a $500 winner, and I just assumed that was all the ticket would win. That’s a nice prize in its own right,” Said Ohmie. “I didn’t finish scratching the ticket at first, I just went into the store and showed the clerk that I won $500!”

Ohmie decided he would run by Dillons to cash in his ticket, but first he decided to finish scratching off all the numbers on the ticket. Each spot matched one of his winning numbers, eventually discovering that all 25 spots in the game were winners.

“It was so much I gave up trying to count, which is a pretty cool feeling” Ohmie said with a laugh. “Thousand here, five hundred there, I knew it was too big to take to the store to claim. I decided to go ahead and come to Topeka that day to make my claim.”

Ohmie says that the winnings will most likely go towards a summer vacation with his wife. “We took a cruise last year, so this year maybe we’ll stay stateside and go to the mountains or something,” Ohmie said. “No need to make up our minds now, we don’t even have the money yet!”

The winning ticket was sold at Kwik Shop 739 at 1600 South 9^th Street in Salina. There are still three $300,000 top prizes, over thirty $10,000 prizes, and thousands more in prizes available in the Fiery Hot 7’s scratch game.
