The Kansas Lottery announced today that it is beginning the “step-down” process for purchase of Advanced Play tickets of Mega Millions in preparation for the April 5 launch of the new and improved game. Beginning February 14, 2025, players in Kansas who wish to purchase tickets for upcoming drawings will only be able to purchase tickets through the April 4 drawing instead of the usual 15 consecutive drawings.
“Advanced Play is a feature a lot of our players enjoy, so we want to make sure everyone knows that this change is happening and that it’s only temporary as we transition to the new game,” said Stephen Ortiz, Marketing and Sales Director for the Kansas Lottery. “Once the new Mega Millions debuts in April, Advanced Play will be available for up to 15 draws.”
The reason for these changes is Mega Millions is moving to a $5 price point, with a $50 million starting jackpot, improved odds, and no Megaplier option. The multiplier will instead be included on tickets automatically. Sales for the new and improved Mega Millions begin on Friday, April 4th after the cutoff for that night’s drawing.
Starting February 14, 2025, after the Mega Millions drawing at 10 p.m. Central, the stepdown will begin. The number of Advanced Draw plays that are available for purchase will decrease by one each draw night until the game change occurs in April. Kansas Lottery Mega Millions players will again be able to purchase 15 Advanced Draw tickets on Saturday, April 5, 2025.
Tickets for Mega Millions are available for purchase at all Kansas Lottery retail locations throughout the Sunflower State.
Since Mega Millions launched in 2002, it has produced six winners of billion-dollar jackpots. Since 2017 more than 1,200 players have become millionaires, an average of three new millionaires per week.
