Johnson County Residents Hit $50,000 Powerball Prize

Johnson County Residents Hit $50,000 Powerball Prize

A couple from Johnson County made the trip to Kansas Lottery Headquarters bright and early Monday morning to claim a $50,000 Powerball prize from the August 14 drawing! The couple, who wished to remain anonymous, matched four numbers and the Powerball to win! The winning numbers were
6 – 21 – 49 – 65 – 67 Powerball 18 PowerPlay 2X.

“My husband was pumping gas so I thought I’d go in and buy a ticket for him and get something to drink,” one of the winners said. “I bought him more lines than he normally buys, which is unusual for me because I don’t usually play the lottery.”

Originally thinking they had won just $100, the couple took it to a retailer who told them the prize was too large to cash and that they’d have to bring it to Topeka.

“I told my husband to check the numbers again on his phone, so he pulled it up and told me, ‘Honey, we just won $50,000!’” the winner laughed. “When I heard that, I just screamed!”

The winners’ families weren’t shocked at the couple’s good fortune, though, as one of the winners shared that while they have never won big on a lottery ticket before, they’ve always been lucky with winning drawings and even nabbing some cash on a game show years ago!

The couple isn’t sure what they’ll spend the prize money on, but thinks they will likely invest in some nice sports equipment and go on vacation.

The winning ticket was sold at QuikTrip 249 at 694 E. Main Street in Gardner.
